A Talk & A Walk
Friday 4th December 2026 | 10.30am – 12 noon
Sculpture by the Lakes, Dorset
£10 per person — includes admission to the sculpture park
An invitation to slow down, look a little closer, and discover the extraordinary in the everyday.
We live through the seasons, but how often do we truly experience them?
Join sculptor and writer Simon Gudgeon for a special introduction to The Turning Year, a new project at Sculpture by the Lakes exploring how a deeper understanding of the natural world can transform the way we experience the changing seasons.
We will begin in the Gallery with a relaxed and thought-provoking talk about the inspiration behind The Turning Year, the beauty of everyday experience, and why learning to notice more can help us appreciate every season — rather than always looking forward to the next.
We will then venture into the gardens together to explore some of the new Winter Reflections.
At each stopping point, Simon will introduce a different invitation to observe, explore and experience the landscape. From the intricate beauty of a bare tree to the subtle colours of winter, we will discover how even the most familiar surroundings can reveal something new.
This is not a guided tour in the traditional sense. It is an invitation to become more curious, more observant, and perhaps to see the world a little differently.
The Turning Year — Winter, the first book in the new seasonal series, will be available to purchase at the event, with an opportunity to have your copy personally signed by Simon.
